Therapeutic relationship

Weights and reasoning are revealed as you select, so you learn while you work. For the exam experience with nothing revealed, sit a mock exam instead.

You are a Registered Psychotherapist contracted to an employee assistance program in Ottawa. The contract provides six sessions, with a possible extension of four more on written request. Oksana, 39, is a personal support worker in a long-term care home. She was referred for 'workplace stress' after her manager noticed she had stopped taking breaks. She came to Canada from Ukraine at nineteen; her mother and sister are still there. In the first two sessions she was efficient and practical, wanting strategies for sleep and for 'switching off'. You have taught her a grounding exercise. You have not yet taken a trauma history. It is session three. Oksana is describing a night shift during a respiratory outbreak two winters ago. Partway through a sentence about a resident's family on the phone, her voice flattens and she stops. Her breathing becomes shallow and rapid and her gaze fixes on a point near the floor. When you say her name she does not respond. Ten seconds pass. Her hands are gripping the edge of the chair.
