Therapeutic relationship

Weights and reasoning are revealed as you select, so you learn while you work. For the exam experience with nothing revealed, sit a mock exam instead.

You are a Registered Psychotherapist in solo private practice in Kingston, working relationally. Maeve Okonkwo-Doyle, 34, is a high school teacher who pays your fee through her partner's extended health plan. She was referred by a fertility clinic social worker after a third pregnancy loss in two years. Maeve has completed two rounds of IVF, has one funded round remaining, and describes herself as 'perfectly functional at work and useless at home.' Four sessions in, she talks readily about hormone schedules, her mother-in-law's remarks and her husband's silence, and stops short every time she approaches the losses themselves. You have noticed that she watches your face closely while she talks. Today she sits down, puts her bag on the floor, and before you have said anything she says: 'I need to ask you something first. Do you have children?' You have had two pregnancy losses of your own. The second was fourteen months ago. You have no living children.
