You are a Registered Psychotherapist at a community mental health agency in Sudbury. The agency, not you, is the health information custodian. Joelle Bergeron, 29, was referred by her family physician after a workplace injury and has seen you for six sessions for low mood and broken sleep. Today, talking about why she nearly cancelled, Joelle says she is 'not great with therapists' because of the one she saw last year at a private wellness clinic in town. Asked what she means, she says he began each session with a long hug, told her she was the only client he thought about between appointments, and in the last two sessions sat beside her on the couch with his hand on her thigh while she talked about her marriage. She stopped going and never went back. She believes he is a Registered Psychotherapist; she remembers the letters after his name on the door and on the invoice her husband's benefits plan paid. She has never told anyone. The clinic, she says, is 'a big deal in this town', and she does not want 'a whole thing'. Then she looks at you and asks: 'You're not going to do anything with that, right?' Your clinical director is away for two weeks.
